Sunlightsquare is the house Claudio Passavanti built for the music he loves: Latin rhythm, jazz harmony, soul voices and the pulse of house. Since the first release in 2006 it has been a band, a studio and a label. Steve Gadd and Will Lee played on the first album. A Latin Combo recorded in Havana, a 25-piece band played live at Miloco, and singers from Omar to Tasita D'Mour stepped up to the mic. Much of it went onto vinyl. From the Jazz Café to Mi Casa
Sunlightsquare grew up on stage in London clubs, at the Vibe Bar, The Garage and the Jazz Café, and the Jazz Café is where Urban Latin Soul launched to a sold-out room. By 2010 it was a 10-piece, with a three-horn section, Cuban drummer Ernesto Simpson and percussionist Giovanni Imparato, playing Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Milan and Berlin. From 2014 Claudio took the music out alone as the Sunlightsquare live DJ set: decks, live keys, pads and percussion. That show has played Mi Casa Holiday in Mexico, the Nisville Jazz Festival in Serbia and West Coast Weekender in San Diego. In 2022 a band of up to fourteen came back for the Dream Gig, with Omar as special guest.
